OUR PHILOSOPHY
Highlands’ philosophy is to inspire and connect our community, through an exceptional preschool experience. Each Early Childhood Educator provides a nurturing and play-based environment which encompasses all of the Early Learning Framework. Which incorporates all the areas of child development, and places focus on providing experiences which foster creativity, language and literacy skills, social skills, problem solving and outdoor education. The curriculum is flexible, open and inquiry-based, which allows the child to develop at their own pace. Highlands’ approach builds the children’s self esteem and problem solving skills, while fostering respect for themselves and others. The children “learn by doing”, often working with hands-on, open ended materials and carrying out projects that support their interests.

In addition to our inquiry play-based curriculum, the children benefit from regular music classes, taught by Ryan Sloan. We are very excited to have a French Add On Class one day a week with Joanne P. Our afternoon Yellow Class enjoys one outdoor class per week at Murdo Frazer Park, where the children explore the benefits of outdoor education. We further enhance our curriculum with community field trips, guest speakers and community events.
VISION
To create an inclusive preschool community that honours the individuality of each child and exceptional teachers who instill a passion for learning.
PURPOSE
Highlands Early Learning Centre provides preschool children with an inclusive space to play and explore, laying a foundation for a lifetime of confidence, curiosity, and wonder.

$10/ DAY CHILDCARE
FOR 3 YEAR OLD & 4 YEAR OLD CLASSES
MARCH 2022 - MARCH 2026:
In 2018, more than 50 $10-a-Day ChildCareBC Centres were approved for operation through the Canada-British Columbia Early Learning and Child Care Agreement (ELCC). Funding through this partnership allowed the Province to convert around 2,500 licensed child care spaces – with a priority on infant and toddler care – into low-cost spaces at existing childcare facilities.
In 2021, the federal government committed to making the $10-a-day plan nationwide with most provinces having signed on. Work was underway to expand this program to more than double the number of $10 a Day spaces in B.C. The commitment to convert nearly 4,000 spaces is the first-time provincial funding will be directed to support the delivery of $10 a Day child care under ChildCareBC.
Highlands Early Learning Centre became a $10-a-Day ChildCareBC site on March 1, 2022. Our centre converted all spaces for ages three years old to kindergarten to the $10 per day program.
This change drastically reduced our monthly tuition. The tuition is the same every month during a preschool year based on $10 per day average monthly calculation. Our prototype contract runs until March 2026, at that time we anticipate renewing our contract but it is not guaranteed. The tuition could return to the original prices
